Mai Quoc Viet, Deputy Director of the Hydrometeorology Forecast Centre of Lam Dong Province, said that the temperature in Da Lat is gradually increasing with the suddenly increase of the gap between the highest and lowest levels, from 8-10oC on average in previous years to 12-15oC now.

In the past several weeks, the highest temperature jumped to 27oC and the lowest was 6.5oC. Even in the most fierce period of El Nino in 1997, Da Lat’s weather was not in such a situation. According to Mr Viet, measurements show that the maximum rainfall in Da Lat and Lam Dong in general this year would be 100-120mm compared to 150-200mm in the previous years.

The fast narrowing of the inner forest area in Da Lat City, the high speed of construction and El Nino are the reasons causing the above situation, reported the Lam Dong Hydrometeorology Forecast Centre. At the same time, local agronomists warn that negative weather changes may facilitate the development of insects and disease on crops and animals in this largest area for vegetable and flower planting of Vietnam. Da Lat City in Lam Dong Province is a popular tourist destination, which is highly appreciated for its temperate climate, beautiful sights such as waterfalls, lakes and its abundance of flowers and vegetables.
