PONGOUR Waterfall in Dalat

Taking National Road 20, which links Hồ Chí Minh City to Đà Lạt City, crossing Đại Ninh Bridge, tourists turn left at Trung Hamlet, Đức Trọng District, going ahead about 7 kilometers and then Pongour Waterfall is at their sight. The entrance road has been partly upgraded by Đất Nam Company and, though not yet perfect, may offers tourists an easy access of the waterfall.

Located 20 kilometers from district center and 50 kilometers from Đà Lạt, Pongour is the most majestic waterfall in the Southwest Highland jungles. From 30 meters above, the massive water speeds and booms down 7 floors into a big pool, creating sonorous thunder-like sounds, especially in the raining season it is more violent and truculent in fanciful dew.

Pongour is transcribed by French people from K’Ho language. It means the landlord of a white-clay area. According to French geological documents, this area has lots of kaolin.

Pougour is the only waterfall where an ethnic festival takes place. Every year, on the full moon day of the first lunar month, refined beautiful young people of every ethnic group gather for a spring pilgrimage, climb up the waterfall floors in a desire for eternal Elysium. This is a chance for better mutual understanding and love between one and the other.
